Austin Central Texas Flea Markets
Ok, so I checked out Yelp. The reviews were kinda old. Maybe something has changed. WHere are the flea markets? I am looking for the flea market of yore. Vendors selling collectibles, curios, and crazy stuff. Kinda like a garage sale on happy pills. I buy, collect, vend and just generally enjoy the vibe.

I know about the one on 290. Last time I was out there, it was mainly produce and electronics. Is that still the case?

Anybody been to the one that is out North Lamar? I think it's called Austin Marketplace. I know that the owner of business that sponsored flea market on Burnet (think 47th block) is working on getting that one up and running. Where is everyone else?

Are there any seasonal opportunities?

Working on a "new" thrift blog--
Well, not *so* new because I know we've got a lot of Austinites on thrifthorror. But I'm working on revisiting the whole "my GOD what was that thing I saw at Goodwill?" on a personal blog, ThriftHorror.Com. Also on Facebook if you're bored and need more nonsense scrolling past. This week: kittens!

Garage Sale tomorrow
Hey Austinites,

There will be a garage sale on Saturday, January 26th, 2008
at 907 S. Congress (South of the River, Next to Starbucks, Across from the Texas School for the Deaf) behind ACR engineering.

Since all items have been donated by my wonderful coworkers and friends, All proceeds of this garage sale will go to the fundraising goal of one(ahem, that would be me...) of the 2008 riders with the Texas4000 for Cancer.   The Texas 4000 for Cancer  is an Austin based organization in its 5th year and consists of approximately 50 people (mostly UT students) who will bicycle from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska to raise money and awareness for Cancer.

Please fwd this information to anyone who may be interested. x-posted. Thanks!!

Goodwill Blue Hanger
Hey Austinites!

I did a little looking, but didn't see a recent post about the Goodwill Blue Hanger. For those of you that haven't been, it is a treasure trove for thrift store shoppers. All the clothes are $1.25, and to be honest, I think the most I've ever paid for anything there is $7 and that was for an almost perfect condition Singer sewing machine. They usually have big stuff super cheap, too, like furniture and exercise equipment, but I haven't ever bought anything that big.

It's not very organized, so you need plenty of time (say an hour +) and you really need to enjoy treasure hunting. The stuff is literally in giant piles on huge tables and is constantly being moved in and out of the warehouse store. All of my jeans and a lot of my shirts are from there (lots of stuff I've reconstructed or altered...guilt free because it's all $1.25!). I've bought loads of books, a cool army rucksack for my teenage daughter and all kinds of other cool stuff. I try to go at least twice a month because there's just so much cool stuff to be found.

There are two locations in Austin. I've only been to the one off McNeil& Technology because it's closer to my house.

12317 Technology Blvd., Suite 300
Austin, TX 78727
Mon-Sun: 9:00am - 8:00pm

916 Springdale Road
Austin, TX 78702
Mon-Sun: 8:00am - 8:00pm

Happy Thrifting!

Settlement Home Garage Sale
Is anyone still here?

Starting tomorrow and then through the weekend the Settlement Home is having a garage sale at the Palmer.

So, what's the scoop? Is this really like a garage sale, with garage sale prices, or is more like the City Wide Garage sale? (collectibles). Is it worth the 5 dollars to go Friday, or wait until it is free on Saturday? Do they have carts? Is it a bunch of little booths? The Settlement Home meets the qualifications for "a very deserving charity".

But does the sale rock?

Free to a good home--
It's with more than a bit of regret that I make this post. A few years ago, I came into the posession of a wonderful sofa, a bowling alley booth sofa with sparkling red and cold cushions. It's a great piece, I'm proud to have it in my house, but I need to let it go--I just don't have the space for it anymore.

I really want it to go to someone who'll love it as much as I do--it's a great conversation piece. The upside, you'll make everyone either jealous or nauseated, which is a reaction you can't pay money for. The downside, it's a large beast, just under eight feet wide and 4 feet deep. It's a little too high to fit into a standard doorway, so you'd need to either be content with having it in your garage, or have an extra large door (I took apart my sliding glass door to get it in).

Interested parties will need to have access to a pick-up truck, and for preference two strapping men (strapping women are okay, too) to help hoist it over the back fence.

I'm in North Austin, in the Rutland-Braker-Lamar area.

Garden Center Yard Sale
Red Barn Garden Center on Pond Springs Road is having a yard sale of garden knickknacks at the back of the nursery. They have bird feeders, rain gauges, gloves, ornaments, and hooks all at "make offer" prices. I got a toad house, ladybug house, suet feeder, frost cloth, and an ornament all for $19.

Berry plants for fifty cents
The Lowe's on Shoal Creek is selling blueberry, raspberry, and seedless grape varieties for fifty cents a plant. They were five dollars, then one dollar, now fifty cents. I'm not sure if all the stores are doing it or if it's just this location.

An awesome site with great t-shirt designs. Right now they are having a $10 holiday sale which is an amazing price for these t's that you won't see everywhere. Also, you can submit your own designs, score the upcoming designs, and sign up for their street team. Once you purchase t's you can earn money by posting pictures of yourself wearing the t's or by referring friends. That link is my street team link, so if you purchase something I receive credit. If you'd rather just go to their link feel free but I would appreciate the extra points since I am a struggling college student trying to buy some nifty gifts for my friends :) If you are unsure of what to buy there is also a gift-buying guide by age and what categories you think someone might be interested in art-wise. Have fun and hope you enjoy threadless as much as I do. Any questions just feel free to IM me at yourhipsxmystars!

Entertainment Center for Sale
I love this Entertainment Center but its a little too large for a cross country move. Plenty of storage space and the stereo cabinet has a glass door (I removed it because my son learned how to open it and wanted to hang off of it :p).

58 inches tall, 60 inches wide and 22 inches deep. The TV cabinet is 33 inches tall by 36.5 inches wide with the adjustable shelf removed.

$100.00 OBO. You must pick it up (183/McNeil area) by Sunday.

Preview Party - 10/12 - Wine and costumes
On the night of October 12th, i will host a preview party before my trip to the City Wide Garage Sale over the weekend. Guests who attend will have a chance to snap up prime historically-reminiscent clothing articles before they are available to the public. Wine and cheese will be served.

Articles include: A number of fall hats, beautiful Victorian-style blouses, unusual costume items for women and men, some fall jackets, plus a few shoes. If you have a gothic or victorian costume in your fall plans, this is the place to pick up some good items cheaply. Thinking of Dickens festival? I can help.

Everything will be 25 to 50% less than the show prices. Typical item price will be between 5 and 20 dollars, and the more you buy, the better your deal. This is not a show of custom work - these are all used clothing finds and represent a great value. As such, I don't have all sizes. You are best in luck if you are a woman from size 0 to 12, though i do have a few things in larger sizes and for men.

I had hoped to get more things on Ebay before this but it simply didnt happen. If you can't make it to the preview, come on out to CWGS and find me and I'll make you a similar bargain.

11607 StarView Trail, 7-9pm. Friends are welcome. There will be a room available to try on clothing with mirrors.
